Do the bedrooms have walls? Is the lake in the sitting-room? Twin Peaks is a stunning modern design with a glassed-in cloister that runs along the back of the house. If the big sliding walls of the bedrooms are open you can see straight through the house and out to Lake Wakatipu.....

.... "Wow" is a word that sprung childishly to mind as I slumped down in a broad expanse of armchair in the sitting area. The lake seems to stretch out from beneath the house itself, seen through huge slabs of glass that jut triangularly like a ship’s prow. No one could say that Twin Peaks does not make the most of its view. On the other side of the lake rise the Remarkables, a range of skiing mountains with those two peaks after which the house is named. Outside is a barbecue area and bedrooms have an oriental openness to the design, clean marble in the bathrooms and all-glass showers. And while the house itself might be cool and minimalist, leaving you unsure if you are inside or outside, Margaret and Derek are contrastingly warm, direct and friendly people who have clearly loved meeting all their guests. You are offered early evening drinks with them, a good time to sort out all that there is to do in Queenstown. Biking and walking track to Queenstown, jet-boating, white-water rafting, parapenting, skiing, flights to Milford Sound.
