Freshly-brewed coffee and a home-baked chocolatey delight in hand, I squidged into the comfy cream sofa and listened to Louisa as she reeled off their legendary breakfast menu. As delicious as it is elaborate, everything is home-made from the bread and the blueberry muffins to the pancakes with berries and passion fruit curd, all served out on the terrace with panoramic views to the hills and woods just outside town.....

.... As the name suggests, everything here is designed for your sheer comfort and delight. Great beds, crisp white linens and fluffy towels are the guest stars in elegant rooms full of country-style French antiques, gorgeous old oak chests, liberty prints and flowers. Kerikeri is a charming little town, the historic ‘cradle of the nation’ and full of bountiful orchards and greenery, evident in their tropical-flavoured garden, which yes, does have a bed or two of roses that are set among other flowery treasures brought over by early settlers. It’s only a short walk to the shops and cafés or to the picturesque river basin with its yachts, historic buildings and Maori heritage. Enjoy this place for as long as you can - a stay away from home will not find you in safer, more hospitable hands than these. The Hobson-Corrys are consummate hosts and it is a pleasure to welcome them back both to the North Island and to this guide.
