The Resurgence is an environmental-award-winning lodge named after the source of the Riwaka River. This naturally-purified crystal pool springs from deep within the ground and is only half an hour’s walk away, through land flourishing with native trees.....

.... The property borders Kahurangi National Park, home to a great variety of birds including keruru, bellbirds, fantails, wax-eyes, quails, pheasants and, my favourite, the jazzy-sounding morepork. Clare keeps a touch of the avian theme indoors too. Rachel Gilmore’s beautifully depicted paintings of bellbirds, dotterel and whio feature in the Bush Suites. Nature lovers will be in their element here, especially with the doorstep opportunity to kayak and walk in the Abel Tasman, or over in Golden Bay on a private guided eco-tour, and then returning that evening to enjoy the good life at this terroir-style lodge, ideal for those who appreciate excellent cuisine and great conversation. I met the other guests over pre-dinner drinks and by the time we sat down for the main meal we were all pals and laughed away the evening. Clare’s four-course meal of broccoli timbale, carrot, orange and ginger soup, a Mediterranean fresh fish main and a lime cream tart with espresso coffee was unfaultable… unlike Peter’s jokes (just kidding Peter!). If you strike a rare rainy day, massage therapies, the Internet, CDs, a well-respected book exchange and shelves of bush suite DVDs are at your disposal.
