I was so overwhelmed by the presence of Clearview Lodge as I approached that I initially failed to notice the fully-fledged orchard and olive groves that were passing by. It may only be about ten minutes from the airport, but you could be halfway up Everest such is the spirit of peace and quiet here.....

.... Set in ten acres of vineyards and pure greenery, the lodge was built by Sue and Robin seven years ago with future guests in mind. Bedrooms are therefore large and luxurious – mine had deep red walls, antique chairs, a TV (with Sky, if it matters), wifi and copious amounts of fruit and chocs. The bathrooms are, if anything, even bigger. From my balcony I could gaze freely across Sue’s wild garden (with essential herb and veggie area) and out to the vines. It’s a siren for local bird life, including a family of quails who surveyed me from the front lawn as I made my way towards the first meal of the day. Breakfast is an almost horizontally laid-back affair, taken at a table in front of long windows with yet more views over the grounds. Their cellar is well stocked with wines produced from their own vines (2006 from "best ever seen" grapes is still the pick of the vintages... but going fast) so I suggest you grab a glass or three and lie back in the spa pool – a perfect way to recover from any long and arduous flight. Championship golf course and The Groynes just down the road. Also fully kitted-out and great for kids. Heated outdoor pool.[i/]
