No matter which way you look from Lime Tree Lodge’s manicured garden, some distant, grandly-named mountain will stare right back at you. The lodge, humbled and alone among its rocky neighbours, is uniquely positioned on a huge, flat plain, so that with a single quick and dizzy spin you can view them all at once.....

.... Although just a quick drive away, I felt perfectly removed from the bustle of town as I pondered the panorama, not quite knowing where to rest my eyes – so I stepped inside and set my sights on some well-needed R&R instead. Dominated by a superb, craggy schist fireplace the living area is stylish-yet-put-your-feet-up-and-sink-into-the-sofa-right-now comfy all at the same time. Though new to the business, your hosts Pauline and John seem instinctively to know just what you’ll need. For me this meant cracking open a bottle of local pinot noir, preparing a delicious tray of nibbles, including whitebait ‘fritters’ fresh from the pan, and stoking the fire till it crackled. Perfect. All the rooms are fresh and contemporary, but just as cosy. Plenty of light streams through their French windows from Pauline’s lovely garden, which is just the spot to relax and soak up the warm Central Otago sun. Enjoy a Vodka lime gimlet - Lime Tree Lodge's suggested apéritif made with New Zealand's very own '42 below' Vodka and freshly-squeezed lime juice – with your hosts while the sun sets over awe-inspiring mountains in the distance. Swimming-pool, petanque court and 5-hole pitch and putt golf course on site. Children over 8 welcome.
