This imposing neo-Georgian house (built in 1922) sits slap-bang in the middle of Christchurch. Technically guests stay in the servants’ quarters, but have no fear, this is no ‘Upstairs, Downstairs’ arrangement.....

.... Bedrooms are English in feel but immaculately turned out in a way that I can never manage at home. The whole house has been given a lavish makeover and I don’t think I have ever seen rooms with so many extras. Hidden in cupboards are telephones, bathrobes, corkscrews, more toiletries than you can shake a stick at, fridges, your own heating system and mohair rugs… to name but a few. No one seems to have told Stephanie and Leonard that they are under no obligation to provide everything for their guests. When I arrived Stephanie was in mid-conversation with two guests and the sound of laughter filled the air (always a good sign). Drinks are taken on the front terrace to catch the last of the sun and vicious games of croquet are often played out on the vast front lawn. Breakfast is a moveable and memorable feast and Stephanie admits that she is particularly famous for her salmon and brie omelettes. Fresh flowers and home-baking complete the picture. This grand residence may stand in the most prestigious street in town, but it’s a totally un-stuffy place to stay and lots of fun. Incredibly central and a five-minute walk to the centre of town. Wifi internet access throughout house (and garden!). Also a computer dedicated to guest use - Photoshop & Picasa loaded - and Stephanie says she will even copy your photos to a disc ...for free!.
