This is the coolest of wharf conversions, more boat than house, water constantly lapping beneath its prow. The Boathouse is supported on poles in the Opua Harbour, next to the Russell ferry jetty so you can watch the boats come and go from your huge deck with its glass and metal rail (last boat at 10 p.....

....m.). You can even fish from the deck of the lower apartment, The Landing. The two apartments sit one above the other, similar in style, although there seemed to be even more space in the topmost living area, The Bridge, perhaps because the entire front wall slides away making the deck an extension of the room itself. The interiors are state-of-the-art, chic, shiny-new, lots of blue and glass, the nautical theme subtle and atmospheric (rather than obvious and annoying). And the kitchens have everything, including ice-makers. Basics like milk, tea and coffee, olive oil, washing powder etc are all provided, so all you need are the main food items and away you go. Right next door, by the way, are the Opua General Store which has a great bakery and restaurant. Other mod cons are a full entertainment system, large screen LCD TV, washing-machines and clothes dryers, air-conditioning and wireless broadband. You will live luxuriously well at The Boathouse and all the boat and bird activity make its unique position in the heart of the harbour fascinating.
