The best place to laze around inside is on the window-seat in the corner - you can watch the fish swim by below. Macrocarpa is heavenly.....

.... Jamie built it from scratch and the deck hangs out over the Taipa River as it turns left past the sand spit and spills into Doubtless Bay. The view stretches up to Tokerau beach on the Karikari Peninsula about ten kilometres away and a wall of glass in the downstairs bedroom means you don’t have to get out of bed for it. If you do make it to a vertical position, roll ten metres down to the shore and swim in crystal clear water when the tide is in. The cottage is spic and span, simply furnished and flooded with light. It’s all open-plan, with a good queen-size bed, a sitting area, a kitchen downstairs and a twin-bedded room in the loft. Jamie and Sara are young, mellow and know all the best spots in the area, including deserted beaches of silica sand – probably the best in New Zealand - and mangrove swamps. Jamie not only managed to talk to me, but he also got dinner ready for his in-laws and entertained his children, all at the same time and with no apparent effort. This relaxed attitude has spread to the cottage and I challenge you not to feel supremely zoned-out by the time you leave.
