The Edwin Fox

Picton

Boat trips

The Edwin Fox, one of the world’s oldest surviving ships, has retired to Picton’s foreshore. Before her (or should I say his?) days as a symbol of historical interest The Edwin Fox saw service in the Crimean War, shuttled convicts to Australia and immigrant settlers to New Zealand, transported meat, coal and other goods, was sold for a shilling and was finally attacked by vandals and scavengers. You can learn more about these colourful stories and explore the rare teak Bengal-built remains of the ship at the Maritime Centre.

  • Prices: Open daily 9am - 5pm summer or 9am - 3pm winter. Admission for adults $8 and children $2.50.
  • Contact: Edwin Fox Maritime Centre, 100 metres from the rail ferry terminal on the Picton foreshore
